Player Safety First
Gambling should be entertainment — never a financial strategy or an escape. This guide explains the tools available to keep you in control, the warning signs to watch for and how to get help if gambling stops being fun.
The Foundation
Responsible gambling is the practice of engaging with online casino games and sports betting as a form of paid entertainment — with a clear budget, a time limit and a full understanding that losses are the likely outcome for most players over time. It means making informed choices rather than chasing losses, and recognising when gambling behaviour is shifting from entertainment to compulsion.
At 10wen, we write about responsible gambling because it matters — not because a policy requires us to. Players across Pakistan, whether they are following a PSL match with a small wager on their favourite team or spinning a live baccarat game from Lahore or Karachi, deserve honest information about the risks alongside the entertainment.
"The house always has a mathematical edge. Gambling can be enjoyable entertainment when you play with money you can afford to lose — it becomes harmful when it isn't."
Online gambling is not a reliable way to make money. Casino games are designed with a house edge — a built-in mathematical advantage that ensures the operator earns revenue over time. Sports betting markets are priced to include an overround, meaning a winning bettor still contributes to long-term operator margins. Understanding this reality is the first and most important step in responsible play.
Responsible gambling also means respecting the legal context you operate in. In Pakistan, the Prevention of Gambling Act, 1977 places restrictions on gambling activities. This Platform does not provide legal advice — users must independently assess their own position under applicable law.

Player Protection Tools
Reputable operators provide these protective tools to all registered players. Understanding how they work — before you need them — is part of responsible gambling.
A deposit limit caps how much you can add to your account within a set timeframe — daily, weekly or monthly. For example, setting a weekly deposit limit of PKR 5,000 means you physically cannot add more than that amount in any rolling seven-day period. Most operators enforce cooling-off periods before limits can be increased, but reductions take effect immediately.
A loss limit restricts how much you can lose over a defined period regardless of how many deposits you make. If you set a monthly loss limit of PKR 10,000, the platform will suspend your ability to place further bets once your net losses reach that threshold — even if your account balance still has funds from a prior deposit.
Session time limits set a hard cap on how long you can remain logged in and actively playing during any single gambling session. When the timer expires, the platform ends your session automatically. This is one of the most effective tools for preventing the loss of track of time — a common factor in problem gambling episodes.
A cool-off (or "take a break") feature suspends your account temporarily — typically for 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. During this period you cannot log in, deposit or place bets. It's a short-term pause designed for moments when you feel gambling is becoming too frequent, without committing to a full self-exclusion.
Self-exclusion is a formal, longer-term decision to block yourself from accessing a gambling platform. Unlike a cool-off period, self-exclusion is intended as a serious intervention and may last from six months to five years or permanently. It is the most powerful account-level tool available and should be used if gambling is causing genuine harm.
Reality check notifications pop up at regular intervals during active play — typically every 30, 60 or 90 minutes — to display how long you have been playing, your net wins or losses in the session and an option to close the session. They interrupt the flow of play intentionally, giving you a factual snapshot to reassess whether to continue.
Taking a Break
Self-exclusion is the most serious player-protection tool available on licensed gambling platforms. It is designed for players who recognise that their gambling has become harmful and who want to place a firm, extended barrier between themselves and the platform.
How it works: When you activate self-exclusion on an operator's platform, your account is suspended. You cannot log in, cannot make deposits and cannot place bets for the duration of the exclusion period. Responsible operators also suppress promotional communications — you will not receive bonus offers, re-engagement emails or SMS during your exclusion.
Available exclusion periods typically include:
Important: Reputable operators require a cooling-off period before any self-exclusion can be lifted — typically at least 7 days after a formal review request. Permanent exclusions cannot be reversed. If you request self-exclusion, take it seriously; it is not a casual setting.
If you have self-excluded from one operator but still feel the urge to gamble, contact the operator's responsible gambling team. Many operators participate in shared exclusion databases depending on their jurisdiction, which means your exclusion can extend to affiliated platforms.
Practical tip for Pakistani players: If you want to restrict gambling transactions at the payment level, you can contact your bank — HBL, UBL, Meezan Bank, Bank Alfalah — to request a block on transactions to gambling-category merchants. Similarly, Easypaisa and JazzCash offer spending controls within their apps. These are general financial controls, not gambling-specific tools, and their availability may vary.
How to Self-Exclude
The process varies slightly by operator, but the general approach is consistent on all reputable licensed platforms:
Access your account on the operator's platform. Self-exclusion tools are typically found in the Responsible Gambling, Player Safety or Account Settings section of your profile.
Look for labels such as "Self-Exclusion", "Take a Break", "Close My Account" or "Responsible Gambling Controls". If you cannot find it, use the platform's live chat or email support to request it directly.
Select a period — 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or permanent. If you are unsure, choose the longer option. It is better to exclude for longer than necessary than to return to play too soon.
You should receive written confirmation (email) that your exclusion is active. Keep this confirmation. If the platform continues to send you promotional material, report it to their responsible gambling team.
Self-exclusion alone may not be sufficient if gambling has become a serious problem. Alongside platform controls, consider speaking to a mental health professional, counsellor or support service. Blocking all access to gambling funds — through bank controls or wallet restrictions — adds an additional practical layer of protection.
Warning Signs
Problem gambling rarely announces itself clearly. These are the warning signs that indicate gambling may have shifted from entertainment to compulsion. Recognising them early makes a real difference.
Increasing bet sizes or session duration to try to recover money already lost. This is one of the most common and most dangerous patterns in problem gambling.
Concealing how often you gamble, how much you deposit or how much you lose from family or close friends — particularly from people in Karachi, Lahore or wherever you live who depend on you financially.
Using personal loans, credit facilities, overdrafts, Easypaisa or JazzCash borrowing features, or money from family and friends to fund gambling sessions.
Using gambling to relieve stress, anxiety, depression, loneliness or problems at home or at work. This pattern substantially increases the risk of addiction.
Regularly gambling for longer than intended, skipping meals, missing sleep or neglecting work and family responsibilities because of time spent on gambling platforms.
Attempting to cut down or stop gambling and finding you cannot — despite genuine effort. Experiencing irritability, restlessness or anxiety when not gambling.
If you recognise three or more of these signs in your own behaviour, please stop gambling and seek support immediately. Speaking to someone — a trusted person in your life, or a professional — is the most important step you can take. Gambling problems are treatable; you do not have to manage this alone.
Get Help
If gambling has become a problem for you or someone you care about, professional help makes a genuine difference. Problem gambling is a recognised condition with effective interventions. The earlier you seek support, the better the outcome.
Within Pakistan: Mental health services and counselling are available in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar. If you are struggling with gambling-related distress, anxiety or financial harm, speaking to a qualified mental health professional — a psychologist or licensed counsellor — is a meaningful first step. Many hospitals and private clinics in Pakistan now have mental health departments.
From licensed operators: If the operator platform you use holds a licence from a recognised regulator — such as the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) or the UK Gambling Commission — that regulator will require the operator to display responsible gambling tools and links to licensed support organisations. These organisations provide free, confidential support and are the most reliable first point of contact for gambling-specific help.
For minors: If you believe a person under 18 in your household has been gambling, speak to the operator's responsible gambling team and request an account closure. Consider parental control software to block access to gambling websites at the network or device level.
Remember: There is no shame in asking for help. Problem gambling affects people of all backgrounds, education levels and income brackets — from Karachi's business districts to cities across the rest of Pakistan. The decision to seek support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
What You Can Do Right Now
Close all gambling tabs and apps. Create physical distance. Removing yourself from the environment — even briefly — breaks the immediate impulse cycle.
Transfer gambling funds out of accessible wallets. Contact HBL, UBL, Meezan Bank or Bank Alfalah to request a gambling merchant block if available. Remove saved payment methods from gambling platforms.
Use the operator's self-exclusion tool to block access. Choose the longest period available. This puts a structural barrier between you and gambling access.
Sharing the problem with a trusted family member or friend reduces the isolation that often intensifies gambling behaviour. You do not have to handle this silently.
Contact a licensed counsellor, psychologist or mental health professional. Problem gambling is a recognised condition; professional support is the most effective intervention available.
Setting Smart Limits
Setting limits before you play — rather than in the middle of a session — is the single most effective thing most recreational gamblers can do to keep gambling within healthy boundaries. The reason timing matters: mid-session, cognitive biases like loss aversion and sunk-cost thinking make it harder to make clear-headed decisions.
When calculating a reasonable gambling budget, use your actual disposable income as a reference point — money that remains after rent, food, utilities, school fees for children and all essential expenses in your city, whether in Islamabad, Faisalabad or anywhere else in Pakistan. A gambling budget should be a small fraction of what is left. PKR 1,000 to PKR 5,000 per month is a range that many recreational players in Pakistan treat as a reasonable entertainment budget — but what is right for you depends entirely on your personal financial situation.
Setting limits via the operator platform: Navigate to Account Settings, Responsible Gambling Tools or Player Safety (labels vary by platform). Set limits before your first deposit of any new period — not after you have already started playing.
Resets every 24 hours. Best suited for frequent players who want day-by-day control. A daily deposit limit of PKR 500–1,000 keeps impulsive top-ups in check.
Rolls over each calendar week. Useful if your play is concentrated on weekends — for example during PSL or ICC T20 match days. A PKR 2,500 weekly limit is a manageable reference point.
The most common and most effective limit type for recreational gamblers. Set your monthly gambling budget before the month begins and configure it as both a deposit and a loss limit.
Set a maximum session duration — typically 1–2 hours. When the timer ends, the platform logs you out. Combine with a break of at least equal length before any new session.
Cooling-off rule: Responsible operators require that increases to deposit or loss limits take effect only after a mandatory cooling-off period — typically 24 to 72 hours. Reductions, however, take effect immediately. This asymmetry is intentional and protective — take advantage of it.
Our Commitment
At 10wen, responsible gambling is editorial policy — not a legal disclaimer. Every section of this Platform that discusses online casino games, sports betting markets, bonus offers or payment methods also addresses the associated risks and the protective tools players can use. We do not suppress or downplay the risk side of gambling to make content feel more appealing.
We write specifically for English-language users in Pakistan. That context shapes our responsible gambling content in important ways. We understand that borrowing to gamble in Pakistan — whether through an informal family loan or a mobile credit facility on Easypaisa or JazzCash — is a real and serious risk for some players. We address it directly. We also understand that gambling in Pakistan exists in a complicated legal and social environment: the Prevention of Gambling Act, 1977 is in force, and users must understand that local law may restrict or prohibit gambling activities. We do not claim Pakistani government authorisation of any kind.
We will always tell you: if gambling stops being fun, stop gambling. No bonus, no PSL match, no casino promotion is worth your financial security, your relationships or your mental health. The tools are available — use them proactively, before you need them.
🔞 Adults 18+ Only — or the higher minimum required by the operator/license jurisdiction. Gambling may be restricted or illegal under local laws including the Prevention of Gambling Act, 1977.
